I still use my discman

Ever since my ipod broke I stopped listening to music. It wasn't a conscious decision, I just forgot. Lately I've been missing music, and I decided I wanted a new mp3 player. To tide myself over I dug out my discman and CDs. Yes, I feel a little silly when I flip through my CD wallet, deciding what to listen to. I feel even more silly if I have to change CDs on the bus. But you know what? I like my CD player. I've had it since high school and it hasn't broken. My CDs are still in good shape, and I like to have hard copies of things anyway. It may be silly to carry around so much stuff, but it seems sillier spending a hundred bucks on a device that I know will be broken in a year. So this is my response to rampant consumerism and disposable culture. I'm going to keep my electronics until they stop working. When I replace them I will try to choose something that will last. Take that, society! Take that, companies! Take that, anti-green corperate whores! I may not be able to do much, but in not buying an mp3 player I not only reduce my ecological footprint, but I do not support an industry that employs factory workers who are forced to work long hours in bad conditions. I may not be totally green, but at least this is a decision I can feel good about.
